FREESCO 0.2.7 does not support all network cards “out of the box”. It may be required to download the modules 027 file. This ZIP archive contains additional network drivers. Inside the ZIP archive is a document modules.htm that describes what network cards are supported.
This howto may be of help. It has been written with FREESCO 0.3.x in mind, but contains usefull information for FREESCO 0.2.7 as well.
If your network card is PCMCIA then you'll have to install the PCMCIA add-on. This is available via FREESCOSoft.
After installing the manadatory ICMP patch, it is also possible to use FREESCO 0.3.x network drivers on your FREESCO 0.2.7. In that case download the modules 033 archive.
It means your system is out of memory. One way to increase the amount of memory is to enable a swap file. It is usable if you start your router from hard disk. If you don't have hard disk or don't want to use it, then you have to disable unneeded services like public http server etc.
Of course adding some more memory isn't forbidden.
FREESCO 0.2.7 comes with a few network debug tools already built-in.
Tool | Comment |
---|---|
ping | ping is the basic connectivity tool. |
traceroute | debug routing problems. This tools shows what route a package follows to get to the final destination |
netstat | netstat can be used to check if services are actually in LISTEN mode and shows ESTABLISHED connections to your box |
dmesg | dump system message log. Is my network card really detected? |
